Laura E. Scala

laura-e-scalaLaura Scala was born in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1990. She attended Cardinal Newman High School where she was actively involved in Key Club and National Honor Society. Laura played on the varsity soccer team and was Team Captain her senior year. Laura also volunteered with American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 345 at Okeeheelee Park where she worked as a youth soccer coach and referee. After graduation, Laura attended the University of Central Florida where she earned her B.A. in Political Science with double minors in Mass Communications and Legal Studies. While attending UCF, Laura was actively involved in Children Are Readers, a charity promoting children’s literacy, her sorority Pi Beta Phi, and Knight-thon, an annual campus wide event that raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network. While at UCF, Laura worked as an intern and OPS Clerk with the Florida Attorney General’s Office in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, investigating and assisting in the prosecution of cases involving providers who intentionally defraud the state’s Medicaid program through fraudulent billing practices.

Laura attended the University of Miami School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate. While in law school, she was a member of Miami Law Women (the student division of the Florida Association Of Women Lawyers) and a participant in the HOPE Pro Bono Challenge, a challenge where each participant pledges to complete seventy-five hours of pro bono service before graduation. Additionally, Laura was the Symposium Editor for the National Security and Armed Conflict Law Review. In the Fall of 2014, Laura was responsible for planning and organizing a Symposium titled: Veterans Affairs: Issues Impacting Active Duty and Retired Military Members where expert panelists from all over the country discussed the wide array of medical, legal, and political issues affecting soldiers and veterans. While in law school, Laura worked as a law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Judge William C. Turnoff, and the Honorable Abby Cynamon Circuit Judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit. Laura was also a participant in the Palm Beach County Bar Association Diversity Internship Program, working with Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC.

She is currently involved with the Palm Beach County Bar Association and The Palm Beach County Chapter of the Florida Association Of Women Lawyers (FAWL).
