Firm Resolves Case for Family of Child Killed in Accidental Shooting

Candle, Spirituality, Advent.

January 22, 2016 is a date that Steve and Sachi will never forget.  On that day, they got the worst news a parent could receive, that their son has been shot in a gun accident at a friend’s home.  Their son James would be declared dead a few days later.

The family was overwhelmed by the sudden and tragic loss of their son.  They were referred to Managing Partner Gary Lesser by a family friend and an insurance defense lawyer familiar with the firm’s reputation.  Gary’s immediate concern was the well-being of this family, and he spent a lot of time trying to help the family go through the steps of dealing with this loss.  At the same time, Gary geared up his team at the firm to determine who were the responsible parties and proceed accordingly.

It quickly became clear that litigation would be necessary in order to obtain justice for James’ family, and the firm did not hesitate.  Partners Gary Lesser and Mickey Smith, along with the support of the firm’s associates and staff dedicated to the case, aggressively litigated the case for over a year, resolving the case for a significant, confidential sum before trial.

Throughout the course of this case, Gary and Mickey pushed this case forward against multiple parties and insurance companies, also carefully dealing with the law enforcement and insurance issues. We never lost sight that our primary responsibility was to be there to help the clients through the process.  While no amount can make up for the loss sustained by this family, our firm was dedicated to obtaining justice while treating our clients with compassion and providing good communication.
