How can I choose a safe assisted living center?

View More FAQ Videos

The best way to choose a safe assisted living facility, or ALF, is to do your research. First and foremost go online. Don’t look at just the glossy brochures or advertising materials provided to you by the ALF. To the contrary, go online and find the actual rating systems in place at public agencies which will tell you to history of violations at any particular ALF. Secondly, talk to the people that you know. Primary care physicians, particularly those that service the geriatric population, or one that have a pretty good handle on which facilities are better than others. Also talk to your family and friends who may have had a loved one living in any particular ALF, and get their feedback as well.
