Significant Settlement Brings Justice for Parents of Teen Killed in Car Crash

Lindsay Sapp

This is Paula Sapp’s second holiday season without her daughter due to the negligence of a drunk driver.

The team at Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC won a significant settlement for the Sapp family in this tragic high-profile case.

Lindsay Sapp was an 18-year-old high school junior who was a devoted member of the 4-H Club, loved animals and aspired to be a veterinarian. Her dreams were destroyed on May 8, 2021, when she was involved in a four-vehicle crash caused by an intoxicated minor who was illegally served at a bar. She died two days later.

Her family hired Partner Joseph B. Landy to represent them in their claim against the bar for a violation of Florida’s Dram Shop Act, as well as against the other responsible parties.

Paula said she is grateful to Joe and the team at Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC for working tirelessly on behalf of her daughter. Her focus now is speaking at schools, clubs and organizations across the state about the importance of not drinking and driving. She recently spoke to 700 students at Lake Placid High School before homecoming celebrations. She said several students wept as she recounted details of the night of the crash that also killed two of Lindsay’s friends. When she spoke at a Driver’s Education class this summer, standing alongside her was the medic who flew with Lindsay from the crash scene to Tampa General Hospital, where she later died.

As the holidays approach, Paula finds comfort in knowing there’s a 40-year-old woman in New York whose new heart – and new lease on life – is because of her daughter. There are 40 other people whose lives were either saved or impacted by Lindsay’s organ donations.

Paula’s wish for everyone this holiday season is that they make a choice to put away their keys before picking up a drink.
