Why are neglect and abuse common in the assisted living center setting?

View More FAQ Videos

Abuse, tragically, is common in assisted living facilities and nursing homes throughout our state and most of the country. This occurs for two primary reasons. First of all, the entities service an elderly population, the most vulnerable aspect of our population in this country. Many of those people aren’t even capable of voicing their own complaints of abuse. Secondly, all to often these entities put profits before people. The facilities are understaffed and proper care is not given so that they can maximize profit at the expense of the very people that they’re supposed to be taking care of.
